Workers from a variety of sectors taking part in strikes and walkouts.
The National Education Union (NEU) has seen members strike over pay in England and Wales, while Scottish schools face continued action.
Train drivers belonging to the Aslef and RMT rail unions have also taken part in strikes.
Staff across 150 universities have taken part in the first confirmed day of strike action, with 18 days of strikes planned in February and March.
More than 100,000 civil servants who are represented by the PCS union have also taken part in strike action.
DVSA staff and teachers in Scotland
DVSA staff who are members of the PCS, including driving examiners and vehicle testers, have resumed their walkout across the country.
Teachers in Scotland represented by the EIS have continued their industrial action in some parts of the country.
Nurses, ambulance workers and NHS staff
Nurses represented by the Royal College of Nursing have begun a third round of strike action in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Ambulance workers have staged a strike coordinated by the GMB, Unison and Unite in trusts across England and the national Welsh service.
NHS physiotherapy staff across England have also continued strike action.
