Russia and Ukraine have been locked in a conflict for the past year, with roughly 5,000 missile strikes, 3,500 airstrikes and 1,000 drone strikes launched by Russia against Ukraine. The World Trade Organization has reported a 30% decline in the value of Ukrainian exports in 2022, while the value of Russian exports has increased by 16%.

In response to the conflict, the U.S. Congress approved $113 billion in emergency funding for the Ukraine response last year. The U.S. has made total commitments of $78 billion directly to Ukraine over most of last year and through January 15th. The European Union and its member nations have made total commitments of $59 billion (55 billion euros) to Ukraine, while non-country donors have pledged and allocated $14 billion (13 billion euros). According to IFW-Kiel, around 50% of the aid disbursed has been as a percentage of commitments made by various donors.
