Os detalhes

A Historic Weather Front

A historic weather front recently impacted Southern California, bringing record rains, snow, and flooding. This prompted air rescues and left many Americans across the country in potentially dangerous conditions, from ice storms in Michigan to tornadoes in Texas.

A New Storm

A new storm is forecast to bring precipitation to California as soon as Sunday night, with 75,000 homes and businesses in the state still without power due to the previous storm.

In Ventura County, 7 inches of rain fell, resulting in flash flooding and necessitating rescues. At the storm’s peak, up to 10 inches of rain fell in lower elevations and some mountain areas experienced more than 5 feet of snow.

In Michigan, 300,000 homes and businesses are without power due to storms, with another round of severe weather predicted to arrive on Monday.

High Wind Watches and Warnings

High wind watches and warnings have been issued for more than 60 million people from Ohio to New Mexico, with a derecho forecast that could bring widespread damaging winds and embedded swaths of significant severe gusts.

Additionally, a few tornadoes are possible, with the potential for significant/EF2+ damage.

Snow and rain fell in Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana in San Bernardino County on Friday, with downtown Los Angeles receiving 2.29 inches of rain, making it the most precipitation for a February day in the past two decades.

San Diego issued its first-ever blizzard warning on the same day, while Los Angeles issued its first such warning in 34 years.

Temperatures in Phoenix are forecast to remain below 65 degrees until Saturday, while Las Vegas is expected to experience rain and a high of 49 on Wednesday.

In Los Angeles, a new cold front is predicted to bring temperatures of 65 degrees, which may require warmer clothing than usual.
